Newberry Center
Program Narrative

The program assists families by providing quality and affordable child care services for children ages 5 to 13 years old between the hours of 2:45pm to 6:00 pm, when school is in session.  Full-day services are provided between 7:00am 6:00pm Monday-Friday on non-attendance school days.

To qualify for services, parents must be:

*Working (25 hours or more a week)

 *In School or Training (full-time)

 *Foster parent

*We also provide service for children with disabilities

The School-Age Program accommodates up to 75 children and families. Our goals for our children and families are to provide a safe environment where our children have the opportunity to engage in healthy social interaction and enhance developmental skills through arts and crafts, sewing, sports, and educational field trips, nutrition classes, food experiences, African dance, drama, and etiquette.  We value the importance of strengthening academic functioning; therefore, we provide daily tutoring in one-on-one and group sessions.

The evening program provides several different offerings for youth participation: Dynamic Divas, Newberry 13, Young Men At Their Best and the Newberry Children’s Choir which is nationally known (see Youth Programs).
