Kimberly Johnson, Director of Program Operations
In 1990, CHA resident of the ABLA homes, Kimberly Johnson, began her ascent into education as a parent volunteer in her child’s Head Start program. In 1994, through that volunteering, she met Executive Director Benjamin Kendrick of the Marcy Newberry Association who encouraged Kimberly to return to school. Kimberly took his advice and graduated both summa cum laude from Kendall College with a BA in Early Childhood Education and Argosy University with a Master’s in Educational Leadership. Kimberly is now a doctoral student at Argosy University.
While pursuing her degrees Kimberly worked in the field of education in positions that included working as an assistant teacher, teacher, lead teacher, program curriculum/trainer, CDA Advisor, supervisor of practicum students, Head Start/State Pre-K site director, interim senior director, and school-age coordinator in a before and after-school program. In addition, Kimberly is featured in the City of Chicago’s Licensing Standards for Child Care Centers.
In 2007, Kimberly came full circle and joined the management team of the Marcy Newberry Association. Kimberly remained a site director until February of 2009. In February of 2009, Kimberly was promoted to the Director of Program and Operations. In this role, she provides oversight and supervision of all program operations. Coordinators with specialties in enrollment, education, parent involvement, nutrition, social service, mental health, health/disabilities, Early Head Start and infant and toddler services assist her.
She currently serves as the assistant secretary for the Metro Women’s Auxiliary, and is a member of the Chicago Coalition of Site Administered Child Care Programs. Kimberly offers consultations and technical assistance to other community based organizations and for profit organizations. Past projects include the University of Chicago’s Donoghue Head Start program, City Colleges of Chicago, Bethel New Life, Centers for New Horizons, Kindercare, and Bright Horizons.
Kimberly is fulfilling her dream that Marcy Newberry Association made possible: To make the west side and communities in Chicago a better place for families to live and develop to their fullest potential. She can be reached at (312) 829-7555.
